Philips has got an Android-based PMP in its line, called the GoGear Connect, which should serve as an Android-based alternative to the iPod Touch for Android lovers. The GoGear Connect features a 3.2-inch 480×320 touchscreen display and runs Android 2.1 OS.
The GoGear Connect is also loaded with Google Maps and equipped with a built-in GPS and compass to tell your directions and locations. The device has WiFi connectivity and it supports a variety of file formats including photos in JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, and TIFF; music in MP3, WMA, M4A AAC, OGG, and FLAC; and videos in WMV, MP4, and AVI up to 720p HD quality.
Since it’s an Android device, it’ll have access to Android Market to download and install 3rd-party apps. The Philips GoGear Connect is available in 16GB and priced at $315 which is more expensive than the 16GB of iPod Touch 4G. But it offers memory expansion or side content loading via the microSD card slot for up to 32GB, which is what’s missing on the iPod Touch. But of course, the display of the Philips GoGear Connect is far behind in resolution while compared to the iPod Touch 4G’s retina display.
