The Sony Ericssion Xperia X8 will soon hit stores in the US for a price less than $300. It’s worth your consideration as an affordable unlocked choice, if you do not mind it runs an outdated OS, Android 1.6
The Xperia X8 feels little chunky instead of slim. It has a 3-inch screen, a 3.2 megapixel camera and is powered by a rather slow 600Mhz CPU. As mentioned, the handset runs Android 1.6 with a rather deep custom skin but there will be an upgrade to Android 2.1 to happen sometime in Q4. But the further upgrade to Android 2.2 Froyo is very slim as the device packs a rather slow CPU.
If you just want an Android handset that’s sufficient for calls, texting and some other applications, and price is the main issue, the SE Xperia X8 shouldn’t be a bad choice.
