Netgear has released its new HD network media player, NeoTV 550, which comes with full HD 1080p playback capability and supports various codecs including Xvid, ISO, AVCHD, DivX, MP4 and MKV. The NeoTV 550 media player has a number of outputs including HDMI, component and composite video outputs and also analog and S/PDIF digital audio outputs.
The NeoTV 550 media player has USB, eSATA ports and microSD card slot, and is able to playback full HD files on a USB drive, eSATA or SD storage and those streamed from UPnP, DLNA or WMP11 network sources. You can also plug in an external Blu-ray drive via its USB 2.0 or eSATA ports for playback from optical media.
The NeoTV 550 is now available for pre-order for a price of $220 or £139 on lambda-tek.com. There is also a lower-end device, NeoTV 350, which is available for pre-order on the same site for a price around $136. Besides the two media players, Netgear has also released its HomePlug AV compliant Powerline adapters that claim to deliver up to 500Mbps connection speeds.
