MagicJack is about to launch its MagicTalk service, which allows you to make free calls from your computers, smart phones and iPads. You can make free calls using the MagicTalk to landline and cellphones in the US and Canada, with no time limits on the calls.
Unlike the USB magic jack, the MagicTalk is purely a software-based solution; there is no hardware device that comes with it for interfacing with your computer or telephone. The MagicTalk software works on both Windows and Mac platforms, and is available next week. There will also be versions for smart phones and tablets including Android, BlackBerry, iPhone and iPad etc, which will likely be out sometime in September or October.
MagicTalk users will also get a phone number upon signing up for the service or you can choose to port over any existing numbers to MagicTalk at a cost. Please note that MagicTalk actually allows free domestic calls on its own network (i.e. calls to other MagicTalk or Magic Jack users) within the US. Calls made through other phone companies or International calls are chargeable.
Since this is an Internet phone service, your devices also need to have Internet connectivity via WiFi or 3G, in order to make free calls using MagicTalk.
