Sony has announced the first camcorder with interchangeable lens, called Sony NEX-VG10. It’s also the first handycam that sports the Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor, the same lens that is used in Sony cameras, NEX-5 and NEX-3.
The Sony NEX-VG10 HD camcorder is capable of recoding 1080p video at up to 24Mbps. It’s compatible with high grade, smaller and lighter E-mount lenses and also compatible with the A-mount interchangeable lenses used by most Sony DSLR cameras (via a mount adapter sold separately). It also has a 14.2 megapixel sensor for shooting still images, and comes bundled with an E-mount 18-200mm lens.
The NEX-VG10 camcorder also packs a 3-inch swivel display, Quad Capsule Spatial Array Stereo Microphone, Optical Steadyshot image stabilization, BIONZ processor and twin accessory shoes, which make it great for videographers.
There are also other features such as Auto HDR, Handheld Twilight, and Anti Motion Blur, and catch fast action sequences with a continuous burst rate of up to seven fps, which are useful for taking DSLR-quality photos. Unfortunately, it has no internal storage but it does accept SDHC / SDXC memory cards and Sony’s Memory Stick PRO Duo. The Sony NEX-VG10 camcorder will be ready for the market sometime in September for a price around $2,000.
