The next version of Android OS will likely be the Android 3.0 and called Android GingerBread. A number of handsets have only been known to just start getting their upgrades to the latest Android 2.2 Froyo OS but it seems that the Android 3.0 aka Gingerbread will likely be pushed out sometime in October.
The minimum hardware requirements of the handset to run the Android Gingerbread are 1GHz processors, 512MB RAM, and 3.5-inch display for resolution of up to 1280 by 760 pixels. It’ll also be available for devices that have displays larger than 4 inches which could possibly mean tablets. So, it’s more likely that Google will split Android 3.0 for high-end devices while reserving Android 2.1 and 2.2 for lower-end devices.
The Android Gingerbread will also have a completely revamped UI. WebM and VP8 will also be supported by the Gingerbread. But all these are still unofficial and unsure, we can only be sure till Google make their official announcement later.
