Soon in the future, high-def audio and video, data and even power are able to be delivered over the network which will be made possible by a new type of cable called the HDBaseT cable. The HDBaseT cable basically makes use of the standard Cat5e/6 LAN cable (a twisted-pair Ethernet cable) with RJ45 connector which we’re familiar with and have ever used to connect to our router, switches or computers.
The HD BaseT cable is supported by the alliance of Samsung, Sony and LG etc. It’s able to deliver a speed of 10.2Gbps and is scalable up to 20Gbps, speeds that are sufficient to deliver uncompressed audio and video signals, full HD 1080p and stereoscopic 3D.
The cable will also deliver data at 100Mbps and be scalable up to Gigabits and 100 Watt of power, which means power can be delivered to other devices over network theoretically.
The alliance also claims that the universal cable will also make an end to the various different formats currently needed, where in the future that you’ll be able to transmit from a “network of sources” including digital cameras, PC, DVR, game console, Blu-ray players, and mobile devices to displays in multiple locations in your home.
The format will be out later this year and be expected to see its common use during year 2011. Here is the PDF that explains about the specs and details.
