MiniPak is a portable charger that makes use of hydrogen fuel cells to charge your gadgets. The device is tiny enough to go into your pocket, purse, which you can easily bring it along for recharging your gadgets. The use of hydrogen fuel cells also promises to be friendlier to the environment.
The said MiniPak charger is the product of Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies, it claims to be able to deliver an impressive 2W of power for longer periods and at lower cost than traditional battery-based solutions. Basically, the MiniPak charger comes included with two HydroSTIK cartridges. And each HydroSTIK is able to provide 15W of power and charge your gadgets via the USB port. An HydroSTIK can charge a smart phone from flat three times and about six times for simpler handsets.
The HydroSTIK cartridges can be refilled from the company’s HydroFILL personal hydrogen cracking station. What you need is to fill the HydroFILL with water which it can then convert water into hydrogen and oxygen, and the hydrogen is what you need to refill the HydroSTIK cartridges.
Unfortunately the MiniPak fuel-cell charger doesn’t sound cost-effective enough for long-term use, although it’s been claimed so. The company hasn’t officially launched the MiniPak yet but the evaluation unit is asking for a price of $99 each with additional HydroSTIK costing $10 each. The HydroFILL is quite an important unit for long-term use of the MiniPak but it’s sold separately and priced at a whopping price tag of $499, which is the major downside of using this MinPak fuel-cell charger for recharging your gadgets.
