Once you’ve become the owner of an electric vehicle, you’ll face a little headache with your electricity bills. Sure, you’ll have to pay more for the electricity as you’ll always wanna charge your EV. But with the newly announced Toshiba’s Charge Grid system, you’ll be able to save a lot on your bills as the system harnesses solar energy to generate electricity for charging the EV.
The Toshiba Charge Grid system consists of a Rechargeable Li-Ion battery, Rapid Charger and Bidirectional Inverter. It needs to have Photovoltaic Panels or solar panels to be mounted on the roof of a building, to allow it to collect solar energy and charge the Li-Ion battery. Which can then be used to charge electric vehicles through a rapid charger.
There is a Bidirectional Inverter which serves as a connector between the PowerGrid and the Li-Ion battery. During night time, the electricity from the building power grid is used to charge the batteries. In short, the entire system is meant for effcientlt charging your EVs.
Currently, there is no information about how much the entire system costs or whether it’s cost-effective to be installed at residences. But EVs will still need a number of years to become popular. Anyway, it’s great to know there is such a system ready.
