Two Apple devices use the microSIM cards, iPhone 4 and the iPad 3G+WiFi model. But unfortunately, Apple has confirmed that you can’t swap the microSIM card between the iPhone 4 and iPad 3G. So, you’e unable to use the microSIM for your iPad 3G on your iPhone 4.
The Apple UK FAQ also tells that the iPhone 4 is to be provided as unlocked and SIM-free in the UK, but your iPad’s microSIM card will not work with your iPhone! So, you have to subscribe for a separate data plan for your iPhone!
Your initial plan would probably be having an iPhone 4 contract with data plan and then use the same microSIM on your iPad 3G. But, no, you can’t do that! The microSIM card is NOT interchangeable! You’ll have to fork out more a month if you happened to own both devices.
If you’re US iPad 3G owners, who have jumped on the AT&T’s unlimited data plan, this is really a big disappointment that you can’t use the iPad’s microSIM on the iPhone 4 that you’re going to purchase. Watch the hands-on clip of iPhone 4 below.
