Western Digital has announced a new external hard drive, called the My Book Studio LX which comes with a FireWire 800 interface that makes it suitable for Mac machines including iMac, G5 and MacBook Pro. The WD MyBook Studio LX HDD has been shaped like a hard-cover book, housed in a cooling aluminum case and features an always-on and customizable digital e-label.
Other than the FireWire interface, it provides USB 2.0 connection only, but should be sufficient in terms of speed for professional users to execute heavy tasks like video and graphics editing. The customizable e-label allows you to easily personalize and archive your multimedia collection. You also can have it to display critical information like contents and remaining capacity without having the computer to reboot.
The My Book Studio LX also offers 256-bit hardware-based encryption to ensure better security for your data, along with password protection. It’s available in 1TB and 2TB, is equipped with WD Green Power technology that reduces power consumption by 30 percent.
It also supports HFS+ Journaled formatting, and is compatible with Mac OS X tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard. It’s priced from $200 to $270 depending on the model.
