4Home and Marvel have teamed up and introduced an energy management system that is based on the SheevaPlug computer – a computer comes in the form factor of a power plug and runs Linux, which was introduced by Marvell last year. Although it comes in such a tiny form factor, the SheevaPlug packs a 2GHz Sheeva processor, supports Bluetooth, WiFi and USB 2.0.
The 4Home energy management system is based on the company’s ControlPoint software loaded on the SheevaPlug computer, which is able to optimize and track the real-time and historical energy usage for the entire home.
The system is able to track with details including the usage of individual appliances, and even projection for future usage and costs including daily, monthly and yearly, based on the current usage.
The system also notifies the users if they’re trending towards an overage in energy usage based on the pre-allocated amount in a given time period.
