Toshiba has got a special LCD panel which can convert 2D images partially to 3D images and doesn’t need you to wear 3D glasses to enjoy viewing the 3D images. This LCD panel is compatible with the integral imaging method developed by Toshiba which has nine viewpoints within a 12-inch display to show 2D images at 1,400 x 1,050 resolution and 3D images in full screen at 466 x 350.
The new Toshiba LCD panel has built-in “GRIN (gradient index) lens”, which makes 3D images effect possible by its ability to change the distribution of refraction indexes by controlling the gradient (orientation) of liquid crystal molecules. Turning on the second panel also allows it to display 2D and 3D simultaneously. Anyway, this LCD panel is still under development, some improvement is required to make it friendly to the environment.
