Samsung showed off an 18.5-inch USB powered LCD display at SID 2010. This Samsung USB display is super efficient for its power, said to consume 6.3W of power only. It was connected to a PC’s USB 2.0 port at Samsung booth and having only the USB port to supply power to the 18.5-inch USB display.
Samsung has made some improvement of the transmittance and the luminance efficiency of the backlight of the panel, thus makes the Samsung’s USB display to require very low power only. The display features LED enabled edge-lit type backlight, which offers 1,000:1 contrast ratio with 1,366 x 768, 250cd/m2 luminance.
Samsung will start their mass production of the low-power LCD display for desktop PCs sometime in 2011.

This is really something great. Samsung just amazes me. I hope every manufacturer especially in electronics, will find a way to manufacture items that will consume minimal electricity.
