We’ve told you rumors claimed that Seagate was developing 3TB hard disk drives and now they’ve announced that their 3TB HDDs are confirmed and being planned to launch later this year. The 3TB Seagate HDD is more than 30% larger than the largest 2TB hard disk drive in Seagate’s line.
The 2TB HDD will also face a price drop when the 3TB is launched. If 2TB is sufficient to meet your need, perhaps you could consider getting after the price drop. The coming 3TB hard drive will also impose challenges to the users as it will not come with a standard LBA (Logical Block Addressing), which requires users to upgrade their BIOS and also install new drivers to fit the 3TB Seagate HDD.
Some more, Windows XP users may not be able to access or see the drive at all or if they do, they may only see partial of it instead of the full 3TB. The 3TB hard drive is said to work best only for OSes including Windows 7, 64-bit Windows Vista or a “modified” Linux distribution.
