LinkBook netbook packs a PowerPC processor

Most netbooks are powered by the Intel Atom processors but the LinkBook 8.9-inch netbook is exceptional, it’s powered by a FreeScale PowerPC processor. The company behind the LinkBook 9-inch netbook is a South African company. The PowerPC processor isn’t anything new, it’s a processor that had been used by Apple for its Mac computers until a few years ago.

The LinkBook comes with a built-in 3G modem, has a SIM card slot that lets you insert a SIM card from your network operator. Other goodies include 16GB flash storage, 256MB RAM, an 8.9 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel TFT screen, a camera, 2 USB ports, mic and headphone jacks.

The LinkBook runs a custom Linux OS based on Ubuntu, called the Link OS. The netbook is now available on South African Vedafone for a price of $25 but you’re bound by a 2-year contract.
