Boxee, the service that brings Internet videos to your living room TV, is rumored to be developing Internet video streaming application for the iPhone and iPad. The rumor comes from the company’s recent job posting, looking for an iPhone/iPad app developer, who is an Objective C expert and has had at least one iPhone or Apple app published, to be the first member of their mobile app development team.
Boxee started out as an open source software, has developed abilities to stream Internet video to your TV, play contents on your hard drive as well as playing contents from other sources like Hulu, YouTube, NextFlix, Picasa etc. Like social media sites, Boxee also allows the users to share what they like and what they’re watching with other Boxee users.
And the Boxee software has even branched into being loaded on set-top boxes, such as the Boxee set-top box, manufactured by D-Link is sold at a price of $200. The box allows you to connect to the Internet via WiFi or Ethernet and it features full HD 1080p, connects to your HDTV to play back those interesting Internet contents.
Boxee has ever had an iPhone app, which lets the iPhone work as a remote control for the Boxee. And now Boxee wants to have the iPhone or iPad to stream video, to be different from their usual way of aggregating videos. But they’ll have some work ahead since the two devices do not have a Flash-supported browser. And they’ll have to work away from what they’ve been doing i.e. instead of aggregating, Boxee needs to go directly to the TV or video networks in order to tap into their contents.
