There have been a number of efforts in the past to help increase the lifespan of batteries. We’ll always welcome any new processes that can help increase the lifespan of batteries as we always need longer battery life for gadgets such as your PMP, MP3 player, iPod, iPhone, iPad etc.
The latest news we have here is Hitachi claims they’ve invented a new process that will double the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries. This is a serious breakthrough for the hybrid and electric vehicle where batteries could only last for 5 years and the replacement of batteries is costly.
Now with two times the lifespan, you’d be able to use the batteries for your EV for up to 10 years before replacement is required. Hitachi also has plan to focus this new battery tech to start within the grid-scale storage market for storing solar and wind power.
