Glasses-free 3D screen created using 3D prism pattern

Wondering how glasses-free 3D displays work? The Taiwanese engineers have disclosed their method of making glasses-free 3D displays. The method used by the Taiwanese engineers might not be the same as what used by the i3D technology but they could probably pose some similarities.

The Taiwanese glasses-free 3D screen makes use of a 3D prism pattern, which put side by side and send different light signals to each eye creating left and right channel. In order for it to function correctly, user will need to sit in specific positions to let light show correctly to each eye. They have tested it works well but it restricts the movements of the users. Slight movement or being slightly in wrong angle will make the 3D effects fail.

The 3D system even allows multiple viewers without wearing 3D glasses but they also need to sit in specific positions. The researchers still have lots of work ahead, such as minimizing the crosstalk between left and right viewing zones. They need to have more accurate prisms and be able to control the accuracy of the amount of light to escape, then they’ll be able to create glasses-free 3D screens that allow more comfortable viewing of Avatar in 3D.

Motorola to enable 3D on flip phones Says:

[...] 3D will come to cellphones but they’ll be first made for flip phones as this is what Motorola has filed a patent application for. The 3D flip phones will come with a transparent lid, which will allow you to view images, videos, texts and applications in 3D as along as the lid is closed. But when the cover is open, you’ll only see regular 2D images only on the screen. [...]
