Readot converts 2D images into 3D tactiles

The Readot concept allows the conversion of 2D images into 3D tactile constructs which are useful for the visually impaired to touch and feel for what the images are. This Readot concept had won the 2009 Red Dot Award for the designers Lim Hyoseon, Kim Seungmo and Kim Suhyun.

The conceptual device looks a like scanner which scans on a 2D image and then transforms it into 3D tactile using a grid of pins that raise or lower according to the shapes and colors of the 2D images. The device also has a camera which allows the user to take photos which can then be further processed by uploading them to the computer via USB.

It also has a mic and speakers, which allow the users to listen to the progress and save pictures through voice recognition.
