If your iPad’s battery is dead, Apple won’t bother cracking open your withered iPad for battery replacement. Instead, they’ll send you a new iPad for a service fee that costs you only $99, or $106 with shipping fee.
It sounds good, which you’ll get a new iPad, but hopefully Apple won’t send you a refurbished unit as what they charge is only $99. But on the bad side is your personal data that worries you, which Apple will not recover your data from the dead-battery iPad. Instead they recommend you to back up your data on iTunes before sending the iPad back to them and Apple is not responsible for any loss of information when servicing your iPad.
But if it was a sudden death of the battery, you wouldn’t have had a chance at all to back up your iPad’s data. Or perhaps you should sync your iPad to iTunes as often as possible. So, when the battery goes dead, you’ll then be able to get your data back from iTunes although they might not be the latest.
