We’ll always want higher storage capacities for computer and other mobile devices, due to the increasingly more and more contents that will quickly fill up the hard drives of your computer or mobile devices. In order to produce hard drives with higher capacities, HDD manufacturers will have to look into methods that can increase the areal densities of hard drives.
A company called Molecular Imprints has now announced a new HDD manufacturing solution, called NuTera HD7000, which is based on a new Jet and Flash Imprint Lithography platform and allows drive makers to build hard disk drives with sub-20nm lithography at production speeds.
The solution will allow drive makers to achieve storage densities above one terabyte per square inch. And this will also allow significantly higher storage capacities in mobile devices. Molecular Imprints claim they’ve sold 13 of the NuTera HD7000 machines to some of the largest HDD makers in the world. The first machine will be shipped this month.
