Here comes the SIIG USB 3.0 to eSATA adapter, which is what you need to connect your eSATA drive to the computer’s USB 3.0 port. The adapter allows the eSATA drives to enjoy the super high data transfer speeds of 3Gbps on your computer.
To connect the eSATA drive to your computer, you’ll need an eSATA cable to hook up the drive. The USB 3.0 port is able to provide sufficient power to the eSATA drive so you do not need external power source for the eSATA drive. This USB 3.0 to eSATA adapter also allows the write and read of up to 2TB data to and from the drive.
Drives can also be hot-swapped, which you do not need to power off while removing the drives. Of course, you’ll have to take little precaution while removing the drive, such as not to move the drive too quickly as the platters are still spinning to prevent from causing any damage.
Like many USB 3.0 interfaces, this USB 3.0 to eSATA adapter is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0. So if your computer is not USB 3.0 ready yet, you’ll also be able to use it to connect to an eSATA drive to your computer, but you’ll only get much slower data transfer speeds.
This adapter is compatible with a number of Windows Operating Systems including Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 as well as Server 2008. But there are no drivers for Apple and Linux-based computers yet.
