There is no big deal about a 50-megapixel camera, as now we have the largest megapixel on earth, a 570-megapixel camera that is being built by Fermilab.
The Fermilab’s 570-megapixel camera packs a total of 74 CCD sensors and all these massive components are enclosed in a case that is as big as a Mini Cooper. This 570-megapixel camera is not meant for taking any photos on earth. It’s meant for taking photos in outer space, to detect if dark energy ever exists which could help explain about the expansion of the universe and the big bang sort of.
The 570-megapixel camera is costing a massive $35 million and it’ll be mounted to a telescope in Chile once it’s completed. It’ll be used for 5 years to map more than 300 million galaxies.
