PowerControl app saves BlackBerry battery life

I always leave my BlackBerry on, so I have to charge the device almost everyday. It’s never come in my mind that I should shut it down when it’s not required such as when going to bed. To shut it down and turn it on everyday might be a little hard-to-remember task for some people. But if your idea to shutdown the device when it’s not in use can help you save the battery life, then you can make use of the PowerControl software to schedule the power off and on on your BlackBerry device with ease.

The PowerControl is a handy software for the BlackBerry, which allows you to set up a schedule for powering on and off the device automatically. Such as you can set up a schedule for Monday to Saturday or you can even set up different schedule for each day.

Using the PowerControl software you can have the device to turn off automatically while you go to bed. Therefore, the battery will not be wasted during the 6-8 hours while you’re asleep. Or you can schedule it to turn off just before your important meeting starts and turn back on automatically when the meeting ends.

The PowerControll app costs only $4.99. In long run, this app shall keep your battery with longer lifespan and it also saves the hassle of having to recharge the device frequently.

This app is pure BS. There is *NO* software method for truly powering down a newer Blackberry. I wish there was. If you use the “power off” feature from the menu, it goes into a suspend mode that disables the radio. All this will do is insure that the berry can’t be wasting power checking IMs all the time (if you use that kind of thing).

Another great app I found which has helped me with my battery life for my BlackBerry tour is Battery Status. It shows me exactly how long i have remaining based on call time, browsing and media playback. it even shows my remaining charge time. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get more out of the BlackBerry battery

Actually, my Blackberry Tour with OS v5.0 has the Auto On/Off feature built-in- under the Options menu. You can schedule the BB to turn off automatically; one setting for Weekdays and another for Weekends. It actually DOES turn the phone off- and if you need to use the phone during that time- you have to hit the power button to turn it back on.
