OLED technology has reached the stage where it can be developed into a wallpaper-type chemical coating, which can then be printed on any surface to produce light. A Welsh company, Lomox, has got a £454,000 grant from Carbon Trust organization, a UK government backed body, to further develop the flexible OLED wallpapers.
The Lomox-developed OLED wallpapers need to be supplied with low electricity with voltages of 3 to 5 volts only to produce very efficient lighting and they could help reduce carbon emission. These OLED wallpapers have high potential to replace the existing bulbs and lamps in your home or to use in other consumer electronics.
Lomox believe that their technology could play better on the OLED technology, which has gone stagnant after years of development due to the high cost of production. Lomex’s brainchild shall go official sometime in 2012.
