A new kind of battery is being worked on by scientists at University of Illinois, called the Digital Quantum Battery and is claimed to be able to charge immensely fast and capable of holding 10 times the energy the best lithium-ion battery can hold.
The digital quantum battery is still a concept, which has been proposed to come in a structure that packs microscopic capacitors built from electrodes and each is separated by a 10nm gap. The closeness is also the factor that determines the super fast charging time and also the energy storage capabilities, allowing it to have 10 times energy of today’s lithium-ion battery.
A prototype of this Digital Quantum Battery could be built in just a year. The scientists are now buys looking for funding to back their research.
