I’ve got a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook, which I use as one of my computers, even to do some of the PHP applications development and occasionally some GIMP when needing to resize the pictures such as for posting on TechChee.com
How do I find this Dell Mini 10 netbook? Of course, the screen definitely gives me some problem that will always strain out my eyes. When I’m developing PHP applications (using Notepad++, WAMP and browsers only) on the Dell Mini 10 netbook, I’ll always have to connect an external 19-inch monitor to it in order to have a comfortable screen size. Yes, when using a netbook, screen size is the main problem. Of course, it’ll lose its portability when you always need a bigger screen to connect to it.
The other issue I face on the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is the performance. I can’t have my RealPlayer running, playing me some lovely songs, while I have a few other applications running such as Notepad++, GIMP etc. Perhaps, I could be the only person who has maxed out a netbook and I’m still using it on quite a number of my daily tasks. To me it’s still tolerable.
A netbook definitely lacks the comfortable screen size and performance that a laptop has. Even Dell CEO doesn’t recommend netbooks despite Dell being one of the biggest suppliers of netbooks. Michael Dell believes that customers will not get long term satisfaction with a Netbook. As they’ll face the screen size and performance problems with a netbook and will definitely want a laptop back after a couple of hours using the netbook. Read more at: GeekWithLaptop
