Apple is prepping an FM radio application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. With this app, you’ll be able to tune into traditional FM radio using the iPhone or iPod Touch. The FM radio app is similar to the FM radio included in Appleās new iPod nano that unveiled in September.
Apple also stuffed the iPhone FM radio app with iTunes purchases, so Apple can make more money from the users. You can track down songs that you’re listening on a radio station and buy them from the iTunes Mobile store if you like them. This features allows only users in the USA and the radio stations should support tagging in order for songs to be tracked. At the time of writing, the iPhone FM radio app is not yet known for its launch date.

iheartradio and Pandora make this less important than for other phones possibly, HOWEVER I’m very excited to be able to tune in to the television signals broadcast at the gym and waste countless hours running while watching. That and only 2/4 radio stations I would like to listen to are available on iheartradio.

Ok this sounds really nice. But what I need is to get local FM station signal and the option to record while I’m listening to it.
Any clue when will that be available?

Ahem. Still waiting 11 months later…

What happened to this supposedly-just-around-the-corner-app? No news for 14 months now. Pandora and all the other apps for Internet-borne radio streams can not compensate for lack of broadcast FM-signal LOCAL radio. I wonder if current iPhone/iPod Touch may lack some specific hardware components which is what prevents Apple from adding this useful function to the iOS platform…..

I’m still lugging my iPod nano around with me because Apple hasn’t added this yet. :/
I hope we get some announcements in 2011. Maybe it will be standard feature for iOS 5??
