HSPA/3G Internet connections offered by cellular providers are now commonly available, causing more 3G/HSPA wireless routers or hubs surfacing in the market. Here comes the Rocket Hub which has just been announced by Rogers Wireless, is a device that lets you share HSPA 7.2Mbps Internet connections with a few of your pals.
The Rocket Hub provides high-speed 7.2Mbps HSPA Internet connection, it allows more than one user connected to it via WiFi or Ethernet and share the Internet connection.
The Rocket Hub runs on Ericsson W3X core which also offers voice data over UMTS in addition to the Internet connectivity. The 7.2Mbps HSPA Internet connection is fast enough for most users.
The Rocket hub will come out later this month in Canada and will set you back at least 35 Canadian dollars a month for most basic plan plus the device. The Rocket Hub doesn’t look portable enough that can let you carry around to share the Internet connections with a few of your pals while on the run. Anyway, it serves as an alternative for those areas which you hardly get DSL or cable.

Don’t be fooled by all the Rogers hype. I tried out 2 of these devices and tech support told me all kinds of stories about needing an antenna, they deleted my acct., exchange the unit for another one, and then when I go to return it, I find out that Rogers has a problem setting the units up and they are delayed by over a week. Well, they only let you return it within 15 days so waiting a week or would have put me outside my return period. Tech support tells you to call nerdsonsite for an antenna and nobody there can tell you how much the antenna costs. Someone else has to call you and when they finally do, you need to spend about $350 and on top of that the antenna company that makes them is closed for holidays, so you can’t get an antenna till mid January when, once again, my 15 day trial period expires. Seems Rogers has rolled this out before putting the proper infrastructure into place. Signal strength and the device changing from 2G to 3G to 3G+, then 1/2 the time NOT getting an IP address made this thing useless for me. Oh, and tech support either can’t speak English or the ones that do are arrogant and rude and hung up on me. You won’t see this device in my house again. Definitely NOT ready for prime time. Be afraid, be very, very afraid.

Tried the rocket stick. Would not work in my house because of steel roof. I returned it the way I received it. In the mail. Took 5 months to get credit and cancell account. What a run around. They told me I was a liar on the phone. Finally Canada Post sent them a letter through me that I did return the Rocket stick. Then they gave me a credit. They still owe me money and say I will not get it. I have a credit with them. I do not even have an account.
As one person said earlier, you have 15 days trial. I returned it well within the 15 days. Still gave me a runaround. I was told I needed an antenna also. Could not even get one of those. Money grab.
They have to do sosmething for the rural customers soon.
