CableCARD tuners were previously available on OEM computers only, which it can only be purchased as an optional item to be shipped with the system. But now, Microsoft has announced at a Windows Media Center keynote at CEDIA, CableCard tuners are freely available as an aftermarket accessory, meaning you can easily purchase this tuner to be added into your existing or old PC.
The price of the CableCard as an option for an OEM computer was in the range of $180 and $300. But no pricing info and the exact availability have been announced yet for the aftermarket cablecard tuner. Anyway, it’s good news, with the CableCard, you can easily turn your existing computer into a HTPC with capability of receiving digital cable TV signals.
