Engineers from Tokyo-based engineering group NTT Facilities have built two solar-powered UFOs for the Aqua Metropolis festival in Osaka, Japan. These UFOs are not meant for the aliens to fly in the space, they are simply meant for purifying water and they’re equipped with solar panels for collecting sun juice to keep them running.
Each of these UFO-shaped water purifier weighs 3.4 tons, and are 5 feet tall and 16 feet in diameter. The machines are equipped with filtration systems that pump fresh oxygen into water and they are ringed by LEDs which turn on at night.
The UFO-shaped water purifier sprays the clean water out of the nozzle on top which in turn cools the panels. Each water purifier is able to purify 2,400 gallons of water a day. These water purifiers are to be installed in Japan. One will be deployed in a canal in central Osaka and the other is to keep the moat of Osaka Castle clean until March of 2010.
