IO Data has rolled out the GV-SC31 USB 1Seg TV tuner which plugs into the computer’s USB port and allows the user to tune into the 1Seg TV broadcast. Please note the 1Seg TV is currently only available in Japan and Brazil. Unless you’re a frequent traveler to Japan/Brazil or you live in any one of the two, then you’ll need this TV tuner.
The IO data TV tuner needs the TVStation application which can be downloaded for free to allow you watch the live 1Seg TV on your computer screen as well as recording it. If you tend to record more than you watch, you’ll then need a lot of storage space on your computer.
Other than viewing and recording live TV on your computer, the IO data tuner allows you to stream the videos directly to the iPhone and iPod Touch, so you can view those videos on the two Apple devices. This tuner will arrive in Japan for a price of $70. No word whether it’ll arrive elsewhere.
