Castrol has got a robot, called Flossie to work as the test rider for their bikes. The idea of using robot as the test rider is definitely safer and has much lower risk than using a human test rider. As new bikes or the prototypes will still have some glitches; it definitely risks the life of a human test rider while riding the bike at high speed in the test.
Castrol says that the Flossie robot is best used in testing of bikes with increased acceleration or power. Well, Flossie test those Castrol’s bikes in stationary mode. And it’s able to self learn such as learning the gear change pattern, clutch feel etc of the bike that he is riding.
Apparently, Flossie is not going to ride the bike on the road at high speed, so the chance of crashing the bike is almost zero. But Flossie, a robot was chosen as the test rider instead of human, is because of it can work under any temperature, for any duration of time and under the pressure of having to test a long list of bikes. And the best is no long-term human resource cost that Castrol needs to bear.
