George Holtz who developed the iPhone 3GS jailbreak tool, purplera1n, has again released an unlock tool for the iPhone 3GS. Earlier on last week, the iPhone Dev Team had also released their iPhone 3GS unlock tool, Redsn0w, which also works pretty similarly to Holtz’s version
Holtz made the Purplesn0w was mainly because of his was quite unsatisfied with the iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w 3GS unlock tool. He claimed the iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w is just a soft unlock. So he’s made his own version. Read what Holtz said below:
First off, what is purplesn0w? It’s a soft unlock for your 3GS that I’d actually use day to day. It’s not a daemon that takes any resources, and it doesn’t add a task to your baseband. It’s very close to a true unlock. All it does is patch three files, CommCenter, lockdownd, and your wildcard activation plist (which you need, activate w at&t sim first, no hacktivation support yet). That’s it, no other files are installed.
Find out more about the Purplesn0w on Holtz’s website.
