
Samsung has announced their new N3U hard drive. This new hard drive consumes less power as it’s got the native USB controller built onto its circuit board, which also results a smaller footprint, making it suitable as a portable external hard drive.
The Samsung N3U Spinpoint 1.8-inch hard drive comes with storage capacity of 250GB, which it actually stores 125GB per platter. The native USB controller of the N3U hard drive eliminates the need of a PATA bridge board for converting PATA to USB signals, which is usually required in majority of hard drives. Therefore, it comes in small form factor, especially handy and suitable for those who love small data storage drive but with high capacity.
The N3U hard drive is also designed to be carried around, so it can withstand drop of up to 50 cm and be resistant to shock incident of up to 1500G. The N3U 1.8 inch drive is claimed to be eco-friendly, consumes 60% less power than the 2.5 inch. The N3U will be available in 120GB, 160GB, 200GB and 250GB capacities and is expected to start shipping in July onwards and the 250GB model is priced at $199.
