Hitachi to produce world’s highest-res mini LCDs

Toshiba Biblio features 960×480 display
Hitachi has their way for improving the existing LCD technology, by being able to produce mini LCD displays for mobile devices and gadgets that promise much higher resolution. These Hitachi’s mini LCD displays promise lower cost of production and may be able to achieve the same quality offered by OLED displays, which have much higher production cost.

The Hitachi mini LCD displays offer a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, which outperforms conventional mobile devices in the market that may boast a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels only. An iPhone 3G’s LCD screen boasts a resolution of 480×320 only.

The Hitachi’s LCD screens will be best used on mobile phones for browsing the Internet, watching mobile TV. The first cellphones that feature this new type of LCD screen will likely be shipped at the beginning of 2010 in Japan. First samples have already been sent to manufacturers.

The device shown in the picture is Toshiba’s Biblio, which will soon hit Japanese market. It’s an e-Book reader, features an LCD display that has 960×480 resolution, making it so comfortable for users to read those e-books on its high-res LCD screen.
