D-link routers with captcha security

Captcha is the method of using complex text pattern in images to identify/challenge if one that is logging in or registering on a forum or website is a real human. This method is to prevent computer-generated responses to break into a login-protected website or insert unwanted spammy data into the website.

Many Internet routers are exposed to security risks of getting hacked. The most common hack could be using a software robot to keep on generating login and password pairs and attempting to break into the routers. Since router’s web administrative console does not support captcha, there is no way for routers to stop the attempts of breaking in right away as it is not able to identify whether it’s a human or a machine-generated attempt.

D-Link has now announced that Captcha will be released in a firmware update for a number of their routers, as an added-security feature that is able to prevent software-generated attempts to overtake your computer network.

The new firmware on the D-Link routers will prevent access to the common router settings pages and once your router has been updated with the latest firmware, you should see the new captchas in place. The D-Link routers that will get the firmware update are DIR-615, DIR-625, DIR-628, DIR-655, DIR-825, DIR-855, DIR-685 and DGL-4500.
