Engineers, clinicians, and the school’s Institute of Aging of University of Virginia have teamed up with AFrame Digital to develop real-time gait monitoring system. The device will be made like a wrist watch that can be worn by patient to monitor gait at real time.
The wrist-worn gait monitoring gadget is equipped with various sensors that will keep an eye for the declining walking ability in its wearer. It will gather data each time while the user walks, and these data will be useful to effectively identify the real cause of the problems and provide the solution as early as possible, such as making a proper walking stick for the patient.
The gait monitoring sensors are now in their 3rd generation of development. This wrist-worn gait monitor is definitely useful for preventing healthy old folks die from falls. It’s a much cheaper solution than doing it in the traditional way, which typically requires patients to visit a health care facility, where they walk on a pressure sensitive treadmill and are monitored by video cameras.
