Social media sites are powerful these days. Twitter has helped celebrity Demi Moore save a woman from committing suicide. And now it’s Facebook’s turn, which managed to help a woman catch a burglar.
When two of her husband’s work trucks were burgled in Georgia, Mary Chapman got on Facebook to get helps instead of reporting to the police. She messaged her friend who then in turn forwarded it to another who thought she’d seen something strange.
Within hours, they managed to dig out the teenage suspect, confronted him and settled problem without sending him to jail but having him to apologize. The police had yet to come up with a name.
Social media like Facebook and Twitter have once again proven they could be more efficient than the local forces. It’s amazingly fast that messages are spread over social network sites. Perhaps police forces would need to form a special team to keep an eye on Facebook or Twitter to help solve crimes speedily.
