Texte-ile – a unique armchair that is made from recycled computer keyboards. The designer, Dante Bonuccelli and Lamm should have put lots of effort into sourcing all this big quantity of keyboards for making this armchair.
The major source of those many keyboards is Voice Systems, which they managed to contact through DAGAD. Voice Systems is a company that offers IT support to people with visual disabilities. As part of their support, they also provide a VOICEBox device that automatically reads the onscreen text. And this device integrates directly with a laptop, which has the keyboard removed. The discarded laptop keyboards were then used to build this Texte-ile armchair.
The Texte-ile chair was part of the UMUL 2009 project (Use More, Use Less), which emphasizes on re-use design and go-green ideas. Not too sure how it feels while lying on keys or keyboards. It may add a “unique” level of comfort. They are keyboards from the same model and dimensions, which should assert even pressure to the user’s body while lying on this armchair.
