USB flash drives are simply too convenient to bring along everywhere you go. And they’ll always get misplaced and lead to falling into wrong hands that would jeopardize your career.

Fujitsu has realized the importance of extra security for USB flash drives by having developed their first secure USB flash drive prototype (pictured above). The secure USB flash drive contains a processor and battery, it’ll erase all its data after a specified amount of time or once it’s detected that it’s plugged into an unregistered computer.

User can set how long the data to live on the USB flash drive, e.g 24 hours, and the data will be automatically deleted when the time is up or the drive is hooked up to unregistered computer.

Besides, Fujitsu also develops a second security technology, which uses file redirect to prevent files on a USB flash drive to be saved to another computer or uploaded to an unapproved server. The two security technologies from Fujitsu sound great, but I foresee there will be some intervention needed from the users, which may give little frustration to those with hectic lifestyle or the non-computer-literate.
