Look at how a netbook is stacked on top of other gadgets to form a robot. These are the Coppa and Silvio robots that were built by RoBe which each has a netbook brain.
The robots take power from a 12V rechargeable battery. Other gadgets that make up these bots are an autofocus webcam, a sonar system, heat and humidity sensors and servo-driven grabbing actuators. The bots rely on the single USB port on the netbook to connect to all these gadgets and the netbook is responsible for all the processing functions of the bots.
Using the netbook as the brain also allows the robots to be hooked up to the Internet for remotely controlling them, such as they can be controlled via the tubes. The robots are now for sale, the Silvio bot is priced at $1,449, whereas the Coppa bot costs $1,699. Take a look at the video below how the bots are controllable via iPhone to load with some popcorns and deliver them over to the master.
