Clemson University is so much keen on knowing how powerful of each slam dunk performed by their NCAA basketball players, and have developed a system that is able to measure the force of slam dunks.
Students headed by University civil engineering professor Scott Schiff, have developed the dunk force measurement system and display it on the overhead screens instantly. It was recorded in one game, against East Carolina, Clemson’s forward Raymond Sykes managed a dunk that measured 30 G’s and this was considered very impressive.
The team hopes their system will be adopted for other venues. It seems to be useful for making the basketball games more excited. But the downside could be eyes will be distracted, staring at the giant TV instead of the court.
