A super powerful new X-ray, Jeep beamline, is being constructed at Diamond Light Source in Oxfordshire and is claimed to be 10 billion times brighter than the sun. This super bright X-ray is to be launched in Autumn, which the main purpose is to help researchers uncover secrets lying in ancient cultural artifacts.
The Jeep beamline X-ray will allow researchers to see through solid objects and construct images on micro scale, revealing artifacts in incredible details, less than the width of a human hair. British Museum scientists are the luckiest ones to be the first to use the Jeep beam to study some Egyptian bronze statues.
This super bright X-ray is created by firing electrons into a straight accelerator where they reach a speed close to that of light. The electrons then pass through a booster ring where they gain up 3 giga electron volts in energy. The Jeep beam X-ray is also great for some manufacturers, such as Rolls Royce have started showing interest.
