Ponginator – a King-Kong-size entertainment robot plays music and shoots Ping Pong

king-kong-ponginator-robot-plays-ping-pongPonginator must have been created by someone who lives in boring days. It’s simply an entertaining robot that does fairly simple things, such as playing music, saying some words and shooting Ping-Pong balls using a pressurized gun.

The inventor, Vernon Graner seems to love crazy inventions. The Ponginator is what he built together with the Austin Robot Group. The most outstanding of this robot is it stands as tall as a King Kong, which is three-storey tall. I believe it shall be a clumsy crawler with such height, and it is not meant for moving from one place to another, or else it would cause chaos.

Thus clumsy robot depends on a Parallax stamp-based microcontroller in a computer at its back for controlling the Ping Pong balls, and it’s able to shoot the balls at a speed of 170 miles per hour. This giant robot was made to promote to the Austin Robot Group and to get people asking questions about robotics in general. Take a look at the video of the Ponginator in action.
