Softbank announces a new cellphone, 931SH, which claims to come equipped with a TrueTouch touchscreen display. The “true” here might hint other touchscreens on other mobile phones are not so “true”. Anyway, lets take a look how good the TrueTouch is.
The Softbank 931SH handset is manufactured by Sharp, and it employs the Cypress Semiconductor Corp’s TrueTouch touchscreen solution in its touchscreen display, which is able to deliver a half-XGA resolution of 1,024 x 480.
The TrueTouch touchscreen of this handset also allows gesture controls of applications. Similar to the multi-touch capability of Apple iPhone, which you can use tap, double-tap, pan, pinch, rotate, scroll and others to operate applications on the phone. The multi-touch all point solution from Cypress claims to be the industry’s most flexile solution, it’s able to track up to 10 touches simultaneously
The Softbank 931SH features a 3.8-inch display which is much brighter than what other phones in the market have and it’s perfect for viewing even under direct sunlight. The Softbank 931SH handset also comes with a handful of mobile applications, such as weather information and other updates on the standby screen. And there is also a useful Wikipedia-like dictionary bundled in this handset.
Similar to other Japanese cellphones, they’re only meant for Japan, and they’re very unlikely to reach the rest of the world, which have always been left in envy and wondering why Japanese always get the best cell phones.
