DMFC (Direct Methanol Fuel Cell) is the next generation of power which is to be used by portable computers and devices. This superb technology allows the power of portable devices to last for a week on every single refill of methanol.
Toshiba and Samsung seem to be the pioneers and have been talking a lot about the DMFC power technology, and Toshiba has presented prototypes of their Internet viewers which are powered by the DMFC. The DMFC Internet viewer prototypes ran Windows XP Pro as the operating system, and their fuel cell power is claimed to be able to last for a week for typical use on one methanol refill.
Those Internet viewers come in a pretty slim body, and some models are water-proof. They come with a QWERTY and dedicated for web browsing. Currently, there is no word when these devices will surface in the market or how much they’re likely to cost. Most likely the final product will only be out when Windows 7 is ready, which shall be at least a few years from now.
