ConvenientPower and PowerMat wireless chargers spotted at CES 2009

Two wireless chargers were spotted at CES 2009, which are the ConvenientPower and the PowerMat wireless chargers.

The ConvenientPower dual wireless charger (pictured above) uses a patented “fountain” vertical flux inductive wireless charging technology that works fairly simple. What you need to is insert the iPhone 3G into a thin sleeve, place it onto the rubberized charging pad and let it recharge. It’s a wireless charging solution, with sleeves available for iPhone 3G, Nintendo DS and BlackBerry Curve, but they seem to have forgotten the Sony PSP. Scheduled to hit stores in US in April, be priced at $99. Source: Ubergizmo

Powermat Wireless charger consists of a non-conductive charging mat and adapters for various devices. You can either plug your gadget into a Powermat enabled dock, plug it into an adapter which gets placed on a Powermat, or equip it with a case with an integrated Powermat receiver. It seems like it’s also able to transmit data over the same wireless system, allows audio and videos to be transmitted from station to it wirelessly. The Powermat system is due in Q4 of this year and will cost $100 for the mat and between $25 and $35 for the adapters. They’re working on one built into cellphones. Source: Ohgizmo

Yes, no wires… but phones and some devices need to get the adapters (receivers) as well. It’ll only retail in Q4. Yeah it should be able to wirelessly charge multiple devices simultaneously …. find out more at product page http://www.powermatdigital.com/products.html

I hope they release some kind of option for charging regular batteries with it too – that would be sweet! I’ll probably end up getting a few of these to save carting my adapters with me all the time.

I’m not so sure about all of this, however the concept is really great. I think that if this works like it is supposed to, then this will be a great product. However, the drawback is that each of your devices still need to rest on the specific “pads”, so that still could be a problem. However, it DOES look cool and can’t wait to see it in person in a demonstration. A+ for effort for sure!!
