The Audi R8 V10 is the first car that uses all LEDs (light emitting diodes) for all its lights, including the headlamps, daytime running lights and the turn indicators.
LEDs have been known to consume very little power, with homogenous light distribution, so this new Audi car model can have headlamps that are four times more energy-efficient than halogen headlamps. And some more they are easier to control for its brightness electronically, making them easy to be adjusted to adapt to different conditions.
It’ll be possible making intelligent electronic circuits to control car headlights to adapt to various ambient changes, such as weather conditions, speed and the distance between vehicles. Audi already has a pre-production LED-powered headlights, which offers comfortable brightness without blinding oncoming drivers, by measuring the distance of approaching vehicles and adjusting the shape of the beam continuously to suit it.

Whoa – crazy. LEDs are EVERYWHERE now. I’d like to see a study done that would show how much energy would have BEEN saved had LED’s been used throughout history.
